AI is here with promising results. People are excited. A lot of content is being generated through AI. When I talk to people, they mention that they are very excited about AI's ability to personalize stories of their favorite movies and shows to their liking and style.
I am not very excited about this. If you want personalized movies at each step, games are already there. People watch movies because they are watching what others are thinking, what the creators of those movies envision. The true value lies not in personalization but in experiencing a distinct creative vision.
Ben Affleck recently talked about craftsmanship vs. art. My thoughts resonate with him. AI is great when you use it as a tool instead of a source of complete art generation. The distinction matters because genuine artistic expression comes from a uniquely human perspective and lived experience.
What truly excites me is the exploration of different perspectives within a single narrative. One story can be told in different ways based on the genre and how it is being told. Take "Knives Out" for example – it took the familiar "Whodunnit" format and transformed it into something fresh and compelling by approaching it from an innovative angle.
I want that. I want Harry Potter to be told from Voldemort’s perspective;
what if he was a good guy? I want to hear Thanos’ perspective. Anime does this best. Even villains have the best background stories, and it changes the minds of the viewers.
I don’t want random personalized movies. I want to experience J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. I want to watch Nolan’s mind-bending narratives and Kubrick's compositions. I want to watch Park Chan-wook’s vision.
I want to watch your story. Your vision.
